Charlton’s U18s recorded a 2-1 win over their Millwall counterparts on Saturday.
Micah Mbick and Kai Enslin were both on the scoresheet at Sparrows Lane as Jason Pearce’s side maintained their unbeaten start to the 2023/24 league season.
The young Addicks enjoyed the first chance of the contest as Ibrahim Fullah played through Mbick, whose attempt went narrowly wide of Jakub Przewozny’s right post.
Mbick was soon threatening again, this time showing great feet to dance his way past a succession of Millwall shirts before shooting off target.
Charlton took the lead from the penalty spot two minutes after the restart. After Kai Enslin’s cross had struck the arm of Chris Ojemen, Mbick stepped up and coolly converted past Przewozny and into the bottom-left corner.
The Lions were back on level terms on 57 minutes, when Sacha Viera bagged an equaliser.
At the other end, Przewozny produced two superb stops to prevent the young Addicks retaking the lead, first denying Fullah and then keeping out Manu Wales’ venomous left-footed drive.
Pearce’s side were back ahead nine minutes from time. Wales ghosted into the six-yard box to meet Ethan Brown’s pinpoint cross and saw his header saved onto the bar by Przewozny. Ojemen subsequently cleared but only as far as Enslin, who nodded home from eight yards to earn his side maximum points.
