Charlton’s U18s claimed a convincing 5-1 win over Birmingham City on Saturday.
Karoy Anderson bagged a quickfire brace and Patrick Casey, Harvey Kedwell and Ryan Huke were also on target as the young Addicks cemented their place at the top of the Professional Development League 2 - South table.
Captain Anderson opened the scoring after just seven minutes, curling into the top-right corner from 20 yards after Kedwell had rolled the ball into his path.
Anderson doubled his and Charlton’s tally just five minutes later. Kedwell was the provider once again, this time finding Anderson in behind and the midfielder finished coolly.
Casey gave Jason Pearce’s side a three-goal advantage moments before the interval, exchanging a neat one-two with Anderson before converting.
The young Addicks started the second period as they finished the first, with Kedwell adding a fourth within a minute of the restart. Anderson’s hung-up cross came back off the post and the midfielder was on hand to head home.
Huke made it five on 54 minutes, tapping home Harmony Okwumo’s square ball following excellent work from the latter and Ollie Hobden.
A defensive mix-up allowed Birmingham’s forward to score a late consolation for the visitors, though it had no bearing on the result as Pearce's side ran out 5-1 victors.
The U18s are back in action on Friday, April 21st when they travel to Barnsley (KO 2pm).
