Micah Mbick was the hat-trick hero as Charlton’s U18s claimed a convincing 6-2 victory against Ipswich Town on Tuesday afternoon.
Mbick’s treble takes the 17-year-old’s goal tally to 41 for the season. Mikey Berry was also on the scoresheet at Sparrows Lane, while Ibrahim Fullah bagged a brace as the young Addicks recorded a third win on the spin.
However, it was Ipswich who took the lead after 18 minutes through Jamie Mauge, who headed home from six yards.
Berry equalised just seven minutes later with a well-taken finish after receiving the ball from Manu Wales.
Fullah fired Charlton ahead moments before the break having superbly danced his way into the 18-yard box.
Fullah added his second and the young Addicks third 10 minutes after the restart, coolly converting Mbick’s cut-back.
The visitors made it 3-2 just minutes later as Sam Folarin rifled into the roof of the net from Alex Graham’s cross.
Mbick restored the young Addicks’ two-goal cushion on 73 minutes, calmly dispatching his spot-kick past Dandre Abraham after Mikey Berry had been fouled.
The prolific Mbick was at it again with five minutes remaining, this time firing the ball into the bottom-left corner having been fed by Wales.
Mbick smashed the ball against Abraham’s right upright moments later, but there was still time for him to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot in additional time after Wales was bundled to the floor.
Jason Pearce’s side, who are now unbeaten in nine matches, are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Birmingham City (KO 12pm).
