Hamza Serrar’s side will be targeting a return to winning ways after suffering defeat in their opening game of the Premier League Cup last Tuesday, losing 3-1 to Nottingham Forest.
Last time out in the Professional Development League, the young Addicks were beaten for the first time in 2022/23 – a 2-0 reverse at Barnsley having won all four league games prior.
Colchester also suffered their first defeat of the season in their previous league outing with Richard Hall’s side beaten comfortably 5-0 by Birmingham City. That result was preceded by successive victories over Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic respectively.
