Charlton's U21s were condemned to a 2-0 defeat against Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.
Substitutes Mannie Barton and Tanatswa Nyakuhwa both netted for the hosts at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium as the young Addicks suffered their second defeat of the season.
The home side threatened to open the scoring inside 25 minutes through Trey George, who inadvertently struck the bar with a dangerous cross.
Toby Bower tested Jake Dennis from range on the hour mark as his free-kick beat the wall, forcing a vital save from the Bluebirds’ keeper.
Barton was first to net for the hosts as he broke the deadlock just four minutes after entering the fray. Dakarai Mafico threaded a pass across to the substitute on the edge of the area who let fly from distance and saw his powerful strike creep in at the near post.
With one minute remaining of the initial 90, Cardiff added a second through Nyakuhwa. Michael Reindorf fired a cross across the face of goal, where Nyakuhwa was on hand to tap in.
Up next for the U21s is a Premier League Cup tie against Birmingham City at The Arden Garages Stadium on Tuesday night (KO 7pm BST).
