U21 REPORT | Charlton 2 Ipswich Town 2

'

Charlton's U21s were forced to settle with a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town at Princes Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Ollie Hobden and Henry Rylah were both on target for the young Addicks, but Jesse Nwabueze's brace saw the spoils shared in Dartford.

Tommy Reid was called into action early on as Tudor Mendel-Idowu struck a low effort from distance, forcing the Charlton goalkeeper into a low save inside two minutes.

Charlton had two chances parried away in quick succession shortly after, the first of which came as Micah Mbick picked up the ball deep into the Ipswich half and beat his man with a few stepovers before seeing his effort steered behind by Alan Fleischer.

Kai Enslin was next to test the Ipswich stopper with a thunderous attempt from distance, which forced a vital stop.

The young Addicks made the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time through Hobden. Toby Bower’s initial free-kick clipped the far post and fell directly into the path of Hobden, who made no mistake fom close range.

Charlton doubled their advantage ahead of the hour mark through an unbelievable strike from Rylah. Harvey Kedwell’s corner was cleared as far as the forward, who thundered an outrageous volley back across goal and into the top corner.

The visitors came close to pulling one back up the other end, but Bower produced a superb goalline clearance after the ball had beaten Reid in between the sticks.

Nwabueze provided an instant impact from the bench for the away side as his two late strikes drew the Tractor Boys level.

His first came as the ball was pulled back from the byline, allowing him to convert into the roof of the net with a neat finish.

Ipswich drew level three minutes later as Nwabueze struck a curling effort from distance which dipped into the far corner.

Up next for the U21s is a Professional Development League Two fixture on the road against Millwall on Tuesday, October 22nd (KO 2pm BST).
