Despite a spirited showing, Charlton’s U21s suffered a 3-2 defeat against play-off chasing Sheffield United at The Valley on Monday afternoon.
Following a goalless first-half, Levis Pitan gave the Blades the lead on 50 minutes, guiding Jay Tinsdale’s inswinging corner beyond Henry Molyneux.
Evan Easton doubled the visitors’ advantage after 63 minutes, steering home another Tinsdale corner at the near post.
Moments later, Ryan Oné capitalised on a defensive mix-up to add Sheffield United’s third.
The young Addicks responded immediately through Patrick Casey, who pulled a goal back just two minutes later, poking home from close range.
Charlton continued to push for a way back into the contest thereafter and Tolu Ladapo converted his side’s second in added time, steering Kai Enslin’s goalbound strike past Jordan Amissah.
Amissah then produced an outstanding save to keep out captain Keenan Gough’s effort with seconds remaining, ensuring the visitors claimed all three points in SE7.
Chris Lock’s side are next in action on Thursday, taking on Metropolitan Police in the London Senior Cup semi-finals at Imber Court (KO 7.45pm).
