U21 REPORT | Crewe Alexandra 1 Charlton 5

'

Charlton’s U21s claimed a convincing 5-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday afternoon in their penultimate fixture of the season.

The young Addicks broke the deadlock midway through the opening period when Aaron Henry’s dangerous free-kick was inadvertently turned into his own goal by a Crewe man.

Moments later, the prolific Patrick Casey doubled his side’s advantage with his 41st goal of the campaign.

Casey added his second and Charlton’s third four minutes after the restart, racing onto Toby Bower’s through ball, chopping onto his left foot and firing into the bottom corner to take his seasonal tally to 42!

Casey turned provider four minutes later, feeding Ryan Huke who converted coolly.

Tolu Ladapo was on hand to make it five on 63 minutes, reacting quickest to poke home the rebound after Trialist Louis Phillips struck the post.

Crewe pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining to make it 5-1.

The U21s conclude their 2023/24 campaign on Monday afternoon when they take on Peterborough United at Sparrows Lane (KO 2pm BST).
