U21 REPORT | Watford 2 Charlton 3

'

Charlton's U21s continued their impressive unbeaten run with a 3-2 win against Watford at Vicarage Road on Friday afternoon.

First-team duo Miles Leaburn and Kaheim Dixon, who enjoyed an eye-catching first runout in a Charlton shirt, were both on the scoresheet in Hertfordshire, as was Henry Rylah.

Chris Lock’s side raced into the lead after just two minutes as Alan Mwamba, who made his first-team debut in midweek, threaded in Rylah down the right-flank. The pacey winger’s initial effort was saved by the Watford stopper, but the rebound fell back to Rylah who slotted in with his left foot.

The lead lasted a mere minute as the Hornets levelled the scoring through summer signing Mamadou Doumbia.

Dixon soon restored the young Addicks' lead, capitalising on a mistake at the back and firing home with ease from close range.

Charlton added a third before the interval as the Jamaican international turned provider, squaring for Leaburn to rifle in.

Lennon MacLorg preserved his side's two-goal cushion on 38 minutes, denying the hosts with a smart penalty save.

Watford netted what proved to be a consolation goal in the dying embers of the contest as Doumbia teed up Aidan Coyne, who slotted into the far corner.

The U21s are back in action on Tuesday, October 1st when they host Brentford at Princes Park (KO 1pm BST).
