The University of Greenwich has extended its partnership with Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) for the 2020/21 season.
The partnership will be celebrated on 27 October during the club’s home fixture against Oxford United, as success stories from the partnership will be highlighted ahead of the game.
Last season, current university students and alumni took part in a penalty shootout at half-time.
Professor Jane Harrington, the University of Greenwich’s Vice-Chancellor, said:
“The university has enjoyed a long and mutually-beneficial relationship with Charlton Athletic, and we are delighted to see it continue.
“Both our institutions are big parts of the community and many of our students enjoy working with the club, and of course attending matches.
“Hopefully that can happen again soon. In the meantime, the University of Greenwich match day is always a highlight of our year and today is a great opportunity for us to celebrate our bond and look forward to a successful future together.”
Jason Morgan, CACT’s Chief Executive, said:
“We’re pleased to have extended our partnership with the University of Greenwich for another year.
“The connection with our local university is beneficial for ourselves and for the students who gain work experience with a number of different departments within CACT and the club.
“There have been students that have come across and worked with the club’s medical team, filmed on matchdays and taken part in various other areas of work.”
Ravi Patel, Charlton Athletic’s Commercial Manager, said:
“This is an exciting partnership for the club, it’s a great pathway for students gaining vital work experience and internships throughout the club, which has employed some students in various departments, either in part-time roles or full-time.
“Whilst the educational piece is an important one for the club, this partnership also encourages students to support their local team, and the annual themed matchday is a great celebration of this.
“I would like to thank everyone at University of Greenwich for their continued support, especially during these testing times.”
