Olly Groome reports
The U18s continued their hugely-impressive form with a 3-1 victory at Ipswich Town last Saturday as the young Addicks stretched their unbeaten league run to 11 games.
Charlton had to fight for their points, having to come from behind at the break after Declan Daniels fired the home side into the lead from close range midway through the first half.
The visitors had their chances, with Albie Morgan striking the outside of the post, while forward Timmy Abraham blazed over from six yards after a neat exchange with the midfielder.
The Addicks were on top and continued to probe after the break, finally grabbing the equaliser they deserved just before the hour mark.
Some weak goalkeeping saw the Tractor Boys stopper drop a simple catch from a corner, allowing Alex Willis the simple task of tapping home on the line.
12 minutes later, the striker completed his brace to put the Londoners in front for the first time. A quick break forward ended in Abraham showing good feet on the right before Morgan sent a header looping over the keeper, with Willis on hand to nod the ball over the line.
And the victory was made certain in injury time when substitute Mustapha Bangura-Williams broke clear, brushing aside the attentions of an Ipswich defender before dispatching his finish past the keeper to round of another successful afternoon for Sergei Baltacha’s side.
The win, Charlton’s fifth in succession, cements their place at the top of the Professional Development League 2 – South table going into the Christmas break, with the U18s returning to action against Cardiff City as Sparrows Lane on January 7th.
