INTERVIEW | Chelsea loanee Jay Dasilva raring to get started

Jay Dasilva cannot wait to get started at Charlton, having agreed a loan deal from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The left-sider’s switch will become official once the January transfer window opens on Sunday morning.

And the three-time winner of the FA Youth Cup is excited about taking his first steps into senior football.

“I’m delighted to sign here on loan until the end of the season and I cannot wait to get started. This is my first loan move, so I’m itching to get going and I’m looking forward to getting familiar with everything around here.

“I had a brief chat with the Manager this morning and we spoke about how this was my first loan. He gave me some advice on how to get through it and how to learn from it.

“This is the next step for me in my development as a player. I think that Charlton is the right place for me to take that step.”

Dasilva signed for Chelsea from Luton Town in 2012. Having joined Charlton, he is excited to display his talents on the biggest stage of his career to-date.

He said: “I see myself as an attack-minded full-back. I’m not the tallest but I catch a few people out. Sometimes they can underestimate me and I shock them a bit with the way I play. I look to get up and down the pitch as much as I can.”

Dasilva is not the only Chelsea youngster to now be plying his trade away from Stamford Bridge this season.

He wants to follow in the footsteps of the likes of former Addick Kasey Palmer.

He said: “This season, watching Tammy Abraham and Kasey Palmer especially is a real inspiration. Tammy with all of his goals and Kasey too.

“Talking to them and seeing them do what they’re doing only makes me want to do the same here at Charlton.”
