Addicks determined to bounce back and end season strongly, says Adam Chicksen

George Jones reports

Adam Chicksen insists that Charlton can still make something of this season.

The Addicks were beaten 1-0 by Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night, despite dominating the match for long spells, and now sit nine points away from the play-off places.

But Chicksen says that he and his teammates are determined to have a strong end to the campaign and will be giving it their all in their remaining 16 games.

“We have got hungry players in that changing room; you can see it in everyone’s eyes,” he said. “There’s not one player in the dressing room that doesn’t want to go higher and play higher.

“The hunger is there and we have to show that in everything that we do every day. It starts again now, recovery wise.

“Good teams turn things around and we can’t just let the end of this season slip and slide away from us.”

The Addicks created a number of good chances on Tuesday evening, with Josh Magennis, Ezri Konsa, Patrick Bauer and Jordan Botaka all coming close to scoring, while Oldham’s goal came from a rare home attack.

Chicksen says his side need to be more clinical at both ends of the pitch.

He said: “We do need to be more acute as a team. It’s what we do in the final third but also what we do in our defensive third. Their one was a great finish but we as defenders need to stop that and, at the other end of the pitch, we need to take our chances.

“We need to be ruthless at both ends; attacking and defending. We want to come to places like this and turn them over.

“We didn’t do that and all the lads in the changing room know that we needed to do better.”

Charlton, who will train in the north west before heading back down south on Wednesday afternoon, are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Rochdale, and Chicksen hopes that they can bounce back.

He said: “That’s the good thing about having games so close together, if you have a loss then you can try and put it right three or four days later.

“We have to go again and stick together as a whole team, as a staff and as a club. If we stick together then it will turn back around in our favour."
