George Jones reports
Jorge Teixeira has thanked Charlton’s fans for their support at Rochdale on Saturday.
The Portuguese defender came off the bench, replacing the injured Ezri Konsa, to net a double in the 3-3 draw at the Crown Oil Arena.
His second strike came in the 89th minute to secure his side a point and afterwards he said that he and his teammates want to reward the fans’ support by recording a win against Oxford United on Tuesday night.
“It’s five hours from London and they came and supported us until the end,” he said. “It’s amazing.
“As players, we respect them a lot and try to give our best in every game. I hope on Tuesday we can get three points and start another run.
“There are still 45 points to play for and a lot of games. It’s important that we stop drawing and get three points every game.
“Now we have an important game on Tuesday. We hope that the fans of Charlton come to support us and that we can give them a victory.”
In a topsy-turvy encounter, the Addicks fell behind twice and led once, and two-goal Teixeira says that he would have swapped his goals for a victory.
He said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game; Rochdale are a good team.
“We tried to come into the game well but we conceded the goal in the first few minutes, which complicated it a bit. I think through the game we showed good determination.
“It was two goals for me but we didn’t win. I would have preferred to get the victory instead. It’s good for my individual performance but the collective is the most important.”
Now Teixeira is targeting a start against Oxford on Tuesday, having only featured once from the start since being sent off against Millwall in January.
He said: “I’d like to play every game and win every game. I’m not playing as much as I’d like but as soon as the coach gives me the opportunity to play I will do my best, as everyone knows.
“I respect his decisions and will give my best every time I play.”
