George Jones reports
Patrick Bauer is happy for central defensive partner Jorge Teixeira to score more goals than him, providing he can keep setting them up.
The German laid on Teixeira’s opener against Bradford City on Tuesday night – nodding Ricky Holmes’ free-kick into his path.
He also assisted both of the Portuguese’s goals at Rochdale last month and Bauer says that setting up his teammate brings him a great deal of satisfaction.
“There’s no goal competition [between Tex and I],” said 24-year-old Bauer. “We are good friends and I think that was the third goal that I have set up for him.
“I am happy for him to score but if I get the assist then I also have a part of the goal.
“We showed a good performance together on Tuesday, our partnership is quite good, and I think we are beginning to do well.
“There have been a lot of rotations in the back this season because of injuries - I don’t think I’ve ever experienced so many before - and sometimes it takes one or two games to get used to each other.”
Bradford enjoyed the better of the first half on Tuesday night but the Addicks came out after the break and dominated the second period.
Bauer said that half-time was important in that.
He said: “The Manager wasn’t very happy with the game and he said that we looked a little bit nervous.
“I think at half-time we left that in the dressing room and showed a better performance in the second half.
“The first part of the game was difficult, I didn’t think we played very well. At half-time, the manager found the right words and the second half was much better.
“We created some good chances and should have killed the game. We have to go to the league leaders on Saturday now and put in a good performance.”
