Euell and U23s determined to bounce back after Kent Senior Cup exit

Jason Euell says that his squad are determined to go on and win the Professional Development League 2 title, after suffering Kent Senior Cup disappointment at Welling United on Tuesday.

The young Addicks shared a 1-1 draw with the Wings at Park View Road, with the Conference South club winning 2-0 on penalties to progress to the final.

The exit means that our U23s’ sole focus now turns to PDL2 South - a division they currently top -  and Euell says his side want to enjoy a strong end to their campaign and lift both the regional and national league titles.

“Our targets were to try and win every competition that we entered this season,” he said.

“When it comes to penalties, it’s a bit more luck of the draw but I think we played well enough to win the game inside 90 minutes.

“Welling are a different kind of opposition to what we are used to and we had to leave our little development bubble, adapt and do things differently on the pitch.

“We competed well, we were aggressive when we needed to be and we just didn’t capitalise on our chances when we needed to.

“Although it was on penalties, it is still a defeat and we need to pick ourselves up. I’ve reiterated to the boys that we set out to win four competitions, we’ve got two left and we need to make sure that we go on and win those last two trophies.”

The Kent Senior Cup provides the club’s young players with a great opportunity to play against senior teams and Euell says it continues to be of great benefit to the club.

He said: “That’s the reason we love entering it. We are used to our development bubble but this makes us come out of that.

“This is the real world of football and the Kent Senior Cup really exposes our boys to that. We like this competition so much because it gives our players first-team exposure.”
