Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm that talismanic centre-half Jason Pearce has signed a new contract at the club that is set to keep him at The Valley until 2020.
The 29-year-old played a very important role in the Charlton side in 2016/17, despite missing much of the year through injury. His return to the team at the end of the season coincided with the Addicks' best run of the year as Charlton took 13 points from their last five games.
Pearce said promotion is his only target for next season and added: “I want to keep progressing and be at a progressive club and I believe that Charlton is the right place for me. Hopefully the fans and the club have seen what I can bring to the team and I hope that I can be part of getting the club up to where it belongs.”
Manager Karl Robinson said: “When I first walked in the building at Charlton, one of the things that immediately stood out for me was the strength of the back four. To lose Jason in just my second game in charge was a massive blow.
“He showed how important he is with his brilliant performances when he returned at the end of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action next season. He’s a commanding defender, a leader on the pitch and he brings a lot to this team.”
A full interview with Pearce will be on available on www.cafc.co.uk later today.
