YouTube celebrities Miniminter, Behzinga and Tobjizzle from The Sidemen visited The Valley on Tuesday July 25th, before Charlton's friendly against Norwich City to present the proceeds from their charity game to Charlton Athletic Community Trust and the NSPCC’s Childline service.
The Sidemen presented two cheques, each for £105,000, to the two charities. Receiving the cheques were Jason Morgan MBE, CEO of Charlton Athletic Community Trust, Emily Cherry, Head of Youth Participation at NSPCC, and Chris Park, Senior Partnerships Manager at NSPCC.
The money was raised when the Sidemen FC took on the YouTube Allstars in front of a capacity crowd on Sunday, May 21st 2017.
Youtuber Simon Minter also known as Miniminter, captains the team. Speaking pitchside at The Valley, he said: “All the Sidemen had a great time at The Valley with our fans in May, but more importantly we are proud to present the proceeds to these two great charities. It’s great that such a memorable day will have a lasting, positive impact on thousands of people.”
Jason Morgan MBE said: “We are so grateful to The Sidemen for supporting us. I know a few of The Sidemen are local lads, so it is great that the funds we have received will go into improving health, reducing crime and increasing education and employment opportunities for people across South East London and Kent.”
Emily Cherry, the NSPCC’s Head of Youth Participation who attended the charity football match, said: “It’s fantastic The Sidemen have supported the NSPCC’s Childline service and helped promote our Tough to Talk campaign which urges boys to open up about their emotions.
“It costs £4 for one of our trained volunteer Childline counsellors to answer a child’s call for help, so the funds will allow us to respond to more contacts. We could not be more thankful to The Sidemen for their support.”
