Almost 100 local children were given a Christmas cheer on December 25th thanks to the kindness and generosity of supporters who donated presents to the Charlton Athletic Giving Tree.
The club, working alongside the Welling Salvation Army, brought back the Giving Tree for the second year to provide presents for disadvantaged kids in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Emma Jones from the Welling Salvation Army said: “I can't express in words how many children's Christmases were made so special this year.
“One child said to me ‘you are a Christmas angel’. I was so touched and emotional to say the least, it was heart breaking.
“The Salvation would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Charlton Athletic for the wonderful donation of toys.”
The Giving Tree, which was located in The Valley’s main West Stand reception over Christmas, saw hundreds of individual labels hung from its branches, each containing the age and gender of a child to buy for.
Like last year, a large number of fans visited SE7 to collect a label and subsequently purchase a gift and the club would like to thank everyone who donated and brought a smile to the face of a local child this Christmas.
