Jason Pearce insists that Charlton will stay positive ahead of their Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final second leg at Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.
The Addicks were beaten 1-0 in the first leg at The Valley on Thursday night but Pearce believes that his team are capable of turning things around.
“It’s a quick turnaround and we’ll make sure that we go there focused and ready on Sunday,” he said. “We have to stay positive.
“We’re disappointed in the changing room but the manager and the lads know that this is just the half-way point.
“We know that we have to go there and win the game. We wanted to win the home tie but it wasn’t to be. We’ve got it all to do but we are confident that we can go there and win.”
Charlton won 2-0 at Shrewsbury in April and Pearce says that his team should remember that.
He said: “We have got to take that on board. That will be in the back of our minds; that we went up there and won 2-0. We know that we can do it and we have to stay positive.
“There is no point in being downbeat and thinking that we have lost the tie because we haven’t. We would have liked to have gone there with a win but it wasn’t to be and we’ll go again.”
Pearce was also quick to praise the support the Addicks received from the Valley faithful. He hopes that they will also be in fine voice on Sunday.
He said: “It was fantastic to see that many fans there. It was shame that we couldn’t get a good result for them.
“They saw that we gave everything and at the end they clapped us off. I know they’ll be behind us when we go up there on Sunday.”
