Lee Bowyer was full of praise for Karlan Grant following Charlton’s 2-0 pre-season victory over Crawley Town on Saturday.
The striker – who bagged nine goals in 15 appearances during a loan spell with the Reds last season – was a constant goal threat at the weekend and, on 62 minutes, he netted the Addicks’ second goal.
And speaking to Valley Pass after the match, caretaker boss Bowyer was quick to highlight the performance of the academy graduate.
“I’m pleased for Karlan because he has waited a long time to be given a chance up top,” Bowyer said. “He gives us something different to any of the other strikers we have.
“Him and Lyle Taylor work well together and they were looking for each other. That was very good for us and on Tuesday we have Josh and Nicky to play. There is competition for places and that is what we all want.”
Charlton host Brighton & Hove Albion and Norwich City at The Valley in their final two pre-season games. The Seagulls head to SE7 on Tuesday, July 24th, with Norwich visiting four days later on Saturday, July 28th.
