Chris Solly on Charlton supporters and his team's start to the season

Chris Solly thanked Charlton’s supporters for their backing after Tuesday’s game against Peterborough United at The Valley.

The Addicks – who face Fleetwood Town on Saturday – dominated the second half against the early-season pace setters and looked set to record a point, only for a controversial penalty to be awarded against them with a minute to go.

Posh scored and went on to earn all three points and after the full-time whistle Charlton received a great reception from the Valley faithful, which Solly and his teammates were very grateful for.

“The fans have clapped us off after a loss and that shows they were happy with our performance,” Solly said. “That meant a lot to us. Saturday is a massive game now and we have to come away with three points.

“We have to win and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

The Addicks could have Igor Vetokele back in the squad at the weekend and, next week, a number of other senior stars are set to return to first-team training.

Solly said: “We’ve got some big players coming back and that is what we need. That will be massive for us. At the start of the season we were really light on players and, on a week like this, we should soon be able to rotate players.

“Hopefully the results will soon begin to reflect that and improve. It doesn’t look great when you say it like that [four points from four games] but the performances have warranted more than what we have got.

“We were unlucky at Sunderland and on Tuesday so we could quite easily have two or even four more points. I think the league will start to take shape after 15 games.”
