The Charlton Athletic Women’s team face Millwall Lionesses in a South London Derby at Oakwood today.
It’s the Addicks’ first competitive game at their new home ground, and 2017/18 Player of the Year Hannah Churchill has high expectations for the clash.
“We’ve done a lot of preparation for this game,” the midfielder said. “It’ll be good to get back into our stride. We’ve put a lot of hard work in this week and everyone’s looking sharp.
“It’s always good to start with a local derby like Millwall, it definitely opens the season the right way and makes our first competitive game at the new ground exciting for all of us.
“They’ve got a lot of young players, so they’re going to be quite energetic. It will be a good game for us because it will really test our fitness levels and where we’re at as a group against a really good level of opposition,” Churchill added.
After being named the Player of the Year last campaign, Churchill has been raring to get the season up and running again, saying: “It’s exciting to see the potential that we have as a team, we’ve come a long way but we’ve also got a long way to go too.”
Kick-off is 2pm on Sunday, with tickets costing £6 for adults and £2 for concessions.
