Lee Bowyer has paid tribute to Charlton super fan Seb Lewis, who completed an astonishing feat by attending his 1,000th consecutive Addicks first-team match on Saturday.
Lewis’ incredible run started on February 28th, 1998 with a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at The Valley, meaning he has not missed a competitive senior fixture in well over 20 years.
He was able to celebrate reaching quadruple figures thanks to a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers and was presented to the crowd at half-time, when he performed his trademark ‘worm’ on the hallowed turf, much to the delight of his fellow Addicks.
Speaking following the weekend’s win, Bowyer said: “It’s an unreal achievement. I’ve seen him all over the place! Every league, cup and friendly game, I see him everywhere. He’s a proper fan and I’m very grateful for his support at every single game.”
Bowyer was also quick to praise the Valley faithful as a whole as they played their part, once again, in SE7.
“all of our fans we outstanding,” he explained.
“Even well after the game, they’re still singing. They’ve been great all season for us and, hopefully, we can all go on this journey together. It’s never going to be straight forward and we have to be patient at times, but I’m confident about the outcome in the end.”
