Charlton Women host local rivals Crystal Palace at The Oakwood in Crayford today and Addicks first team manager Lee Bowyer has offered some advice on dealing with the local derby.
Today’s game starts at 2pm and the Women’s team will be putting on a host of family activities before kick-off and the Charlton Upbeats will also be playing a game before the derby begins.
Bowyer famously netted for Charlton in a local derby against Millwall and speaking after yesterday’s 3-1 win at home to Bristol Rovers, advised the women’s team players to remain calm and not let the occasion get to them.
He said: “Derbies are for calm people because you can easily get carried away because emotions get high and the competitiveness of those derbies can sometimes boil over. The people that can stay calm they are the ones that normally do better in the games.”
Charlton Women are unbeaten at home and are hoping to get their biggest crowd of the season in attendance at today’s game.
Bowyer added of the togetherness of the Charlton family: “This club is great. It’s always been good, it’s a good family club, it’s always been the same way so hopefully our women can do well and get the win, we’ll all be rooting for them tomorrow for sure.”
Lyle Taylor is sponsoring the game and is set to be in attendance to cheer on the women’s team.
Tickets are available on the gate and cost just £6 for adults and £2 for children.
