Jason Euell’s development squad earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season after coming out on top of a nine-goal thriller at Harlington on Monday.
The Addicks raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 22 minutes thanks to the goals of Wassim Aouachria, Igor Vetokele and Taylor Maloney, before the hosts pulled two goals back before half-time. But Charlton pulled further away, with Kenneth Yao and Ben Dempsey finding the net either side of Aouachria’s second as Euell’s rampant youngsters claimed the points in impressive fashion.
Just two minutes were on the clock when Algerian frontman Aouachria opened the scoring, getting on the end of a Vetokele’s cross to nod home after he had raced down the wing to clip the ball into the danger area. The first-teamer, who gained more valuable minutes as he makes his return from injury, netted himself four minutes later when he finished from close range with Jamie Mascoll claiming the assist.
Goalscorer Aouachria was involved again in the 22nd minute when he was fouled in the box, leaving skipper Maloney to step up and put away his penalty, putting Charlton in an extremely healthy position going into the break, despite Aiden Mesias pulling a goal back for the R’s in the 38th minute.
Shortly after the restart, however, the threat of a comeback was on when Mickel Platt made it 3-2, but there were no signs of nerves from the Addicks, who reacted in brilliant fashion by bagging three more goals to put themselves well out of reach.
On 54 minutes, the impressive Vetokele earned another assist when he teed up Yao to score the fourth with a fine finish from the edge of the box and, six minutes later, Aouchria secured his brace, scoring the pick of the bunch as he latched onto a ball forward before running half the length of the pitch and dinking a lovely finish over the keeper to make it 5-2.
The sixth came with 15 minutes left on the clock thanks to Dempsey, who poked home from close range leaving QPR well beaten in west London.
The hosts did score another consolation in injury time as Mesias claimed his second of the afternoon, but it did not take the gloss off of a second superb victory for Euell’s side in six days.
