Ben Purrington on playing alongside Naby Sarr and Charlton’s quality

Ben Purrington is backing Charlton’s quality to shine through in the coming weeks, as they work to return to form.

The Addicks have been frustrated in recent weeks and have not tasted victory in any of their last four matches, most recently drawing 0-0 with Blackpool on Saturday.

And Purrington – who has helped his team keep four clean sheets in six games since joining on loan from Rotherham United – says Charlton are good enough to soon be winning again.

“As a group, we’ve got to stay strong together now and you can see the quality we’ve got in the squad,” he said.

“It’s a deep squad and we’ve got people that can come in and deliver the quality, so nothing changes. We have to keep working hard.

“It’s a competitive league and if we don’t string some wins together then inevitably teams will catch us. It’s the same at the bottom and the same at the top.

“We obviously need to push on now, get a little rhythm back and get a little run going.”

Purrington has been a solid performer at left-back since joining the club last month. He has struck up a good partnership with left-sided centre-back Naby Sarr and he is enjoying playing alongside him.

Purrington said: “You know what you’re getting from Naby. He’s strong, wins everything in the air, he’s good on the ball, steps out with it well and he talks to me.

“It’s a pleasure to have him to my right-hand side in the middle. I feel like we get on well and we have a good little partnership.

“I think since I’ve been here, we’ve had four clean sheets in six games. Obviously, the results haven’t quite been what we would have wanted but it is a positive for being a defender, keeping clean sheets.

“Hopefully, we can keep them coming and get the goals at the other end as well.”
