Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm that academy graduate George Lapslie has signed a new contract which commits him to the Addicks until at least 2021.
The 21-year-old has been with the club since the age of 10 and he has proven to be a key part of Lee Bowyer’s promotion-chasing squad this season.
After making his full league debut away at Sunderland on the opening day, he has made 25 appearances in all competitions so far in 2018/19, including a buccaneering, man-of-the-match performance in the victory over Portsmouth in December.
Speaking to cafc.co.uk shortly after putting pen to paper, Lapslie said: ““I’m ecstatic, really. It makes me very proud of myself and what I’ve done.
"I’m sure my family are very proud. I’m going to try and kick on now and really establish myself in the team.”
Addicks boss Lee Bowyer added: ““I’m delighted, he deserves it. He’s been working hard and improved a lot this season. I’m pleased for George. Hopefully he can carry on improving.
“He’s always been a lad that leaves everything out there – I don’t think anyone can deny that – but it’s the in-possession stuff he’s improved on a lot and he’s maturing and, obviously, learning. He’s got a good future in front of him.”
