When asked about the goal Dijksteel said: “It feels amazing, it’s the best feeling ever… Even in training I don’t really score a lot of goals sometimes I’ll have a good day and score, but this is my first real goal!”
“He (Lyle Taylor) said to me ‘GO GO GO!’ before he passed the ball and I just ran on to the end of it and took a shot… Even I was surprised when it went in! I was happy I scored I just didn’t know what to do with the celebration.”
When asked whether he would consider working on his celebration in preparation for another goal, Dijksteel joked: “Maybe! Who knows!”
Dijksteel makes his return to the starting line-up as Chris Solly misses the first game of his four-game match ban and hopes that with hard work, he can prove his worth in the Right Back position.
“I just have to work hard. Play hard and give everything and just see what happens… I now feel comfortable in that position, and I’m happy with my progression. I’m just trying to do the right things in training and I do keep doing extra.”
With playoffs now the goal, Dijksteel insists the team is focused on themselves and looks to use last year’s disappointment as fuel for this year’s playoff battle.
“Obviously we were trying to get to the top two and we just have to focus on ourselves now, trying to win every game and see where we finish…”
“…after last season we don’t want that again. We want to go to Wembley and go up”
When asked about the impressive form since the start of the calendar year and the home form in particular, Dijksteel responded with “I think (teams) should be fearing us every time when we play at home. We’ve just got to keep our heads together and play every single game like we do and work hard.
