Josh Cullen says that he and his teammates are “more than ready” for the upcoming play-offs and has a message for whoever the Addicks may face - “Bring them on.”
The midfielder spoke to the assembled press following another hugely impressive performance on Saturday, in which he chipped in with his first goal of the season in the 2-0 victory at Gillingham, and insisted that Lee Bowyer's men are full of confidence and are aiming to draw their regular season to a close with three more points this weekend, to ensure Charlton are the form team going into the play-off campaign.
“It's on our minds,” he explained.
“We know that we've got to go in to those two games with good momentum. We had a disappointing result at Oxford, but we've bounced back with six goals and two clean sheets in two games and got two very good wins. We want to go into those play-off games with momentum and be the in-form side going in so, when they come, we'll be more than ready.
“We're just going to try and win next week and see where we end up,” continued Cullen.
“Whoever we get, we're confident home and away that we can go and win games and we'll be confident going into it. We're looking forward to it.
“There's no preference for who we play. When it comes to play-offs, it's two games and whoever is the best team over those two games. We're confident we will be the best team, whoever we play against, so whoever we get, bring them on.”
Meanwhile, the West Ham United loanee was pleased to finally grab his first goal since making his move to The Valley last summer and said that it was about time he broke his duck.
As the clock ticked towards the half-time whistle at the Priestfield Stadium, the ball fell nicely for Cullen in the box and he picked his spot to stroke it past the keeper, leaving him able to lead the celebrations.
“It was instinctive really,” he said.
“I just wanted to get a good connection and guide it past the keeper. It's something I've tried to add to my game – to keep getting into the box and add goals.
“It's been frustrating at times this season, things haven't quite dropped for me or I haven't been able to get the finish I would like, but the hard work has come off and I've got one today, so hopefully now I can kick on with another one or two over the the next few games.
“There was no deflection today, so they can't take that one away from me!”
