MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Doncaster Rovers

Charlton will be looking to progress to the play-off final at Wembley as we play host to Doncaster Rovers in the semi-final second leg at The Valley on Friday.

The Addicks come into the game with a slight advantage following the 2-1 win at Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday afternoon, but the job is not done yet. Goals from Lyle Taylor and Joe Aribo sealed the first leg win, before Matty Blair pulled a late goal back.

Lee Bowyer’s men know that a win or draw in normal time will seal a place in the final, while a one-goal loss will send the game to extra time and possible penalties.

The winner of the two-legged affair will go on to face Sunderland on Sunday, May 26th after the Mackems triumphed with a 1-0 aggregate score in their semi-final with Portsmouth.

Chris Solly returns from suspension following his dismissal at Oxford United and could make his 298th appearance for the club.

Jonny Williams will look to be involved as he returned to bench at the Keepmoat on Sunday. However, Igor Vetekole remains a doubt with a tight groin.

Grant McCann, meanwhile, says that James Coppinger is fit, despite being withdrawn at the break on Sunday. They have no other injury concerns.

All tickets for the game are SOLD OUT! Thank you for your incredible support.

Charlton striker Lyle Taylor: “With a goal being the difference, you can’t be slack and we won’t be slack. Bow would never let us be slack. We have to go about business as if it’s 0-0 and do everything we can to win the game and keep a clean sheet.”

Doncaster boss Grant McCann: “It’s going to be difficult, but we have to approach Friday’s game with the same mindset that we had during the second half on Sunday. Charlton are a good side, but we’ve shown for long periods of that game, and our most recent league game that we can match them.”

Charlton and Doncaster have met 14 times with Charlton coming out victorious in eight of those games and losing four, with the remaining two games ending in draws.

The Addick’s took four points off our opponents this season. A 1-1 away draw saw a John Marquis own-goal cancelled out by Mallik Wilks in March. However, when we played host to Doncaster previously, Joe Aribo and Karlan Grant netted in a comfortable 2-0 home win in November.

For 2018/19's match previews, we are dipping into the Valley Pass archive to look back on a previous encounter against Charlton's opponents.

This time, we wind the clock back to November 2013 when Dale Stephens and Simon Church netted in a 2-0 victory at The Valley in the Championship.
