Speaking after Charlton's dramatic penalty shootout victory over Doncaster Rovers, to send the Addicks to the Sky Bet League One play-off final at Wembley, Dillon Phillips talked about his experience with penalties, the penalty shootout victory itself and how the fans support helps the players.
On penalties…
“I conceded a penalty against Plymouth and I said to [Andy] Marshall "I just want to use my instinct" and we do penalties at the training ground so I fancy myself to save a penalty against anyone. I was lucky and I went the right way for one of them."
On the penalty shootout victory…
“I don’t think you really think about [becoming a hero] to be honest, obviously it's penalties and I was saying to the lads at the end; you've got to believe in yourself. When you have negative thoughts you’re not going to score and I believed I would save one. I went the right way for one and luckily enough it was a poor penalty so I am over the moon and all the lads are as well."
On the fans…
“It was different atmosphere to what we’ve had all season, it’s been good, but at times it hasn’t made us play as well as we can and I don’t think we played as well as we could have today but the most important thing is that we’re through to the final and now we can all pull together and try and get promoted."
