MEET MACCA | Macauley Bonne on signing for Charlton

Macauley Bonne, who becomes The Addicks' first summer signing, spoke to Valley Pass shortly after completing his move to Charlton.

Bonne, who departs National League champions Leyton Orient, expressed his excitement in finally putting pen to paper in SE7. He said: "I’m delighted to be here now, it’s been something that’s been on the cards for a while now and so I’m delighted that it’s over the line.

"I’ve played against Charlton from when I was a kid coming through the academies. So I remember travelling to the training ground and it’s been a place that I’ve enjoyed playing at and when the opportunity came to play for the first team, I knew it was the place for me to come.

"[I signed because] of the opportunities. Seeing how they’ve had a young team for the past two seasons and they’ve managed to get where they have with the youth in there. I thought it was the best move for me to progress at and become a better player."

The 23-year-old signed for National League Leyton Orient in 2017 and went on to score 49 goals for the Os as they climbed back into the EFL. He spoke about relishing the opportunity to make the step up to the Championship.

"[Playing in the National League] has given me a consistent chance to play my game for two seasons and score the goals that I have. It has helped me get to where I am today."

He continued by explaining what Charlton fans can expect from him. He said: "Goals, goals and hard work and hopefully I'll be given the chance to show the people here what I can do. I can show them what I’ve been doing for the past two seasons at Leyton Orient, so hopefully I can come and do the same."

The Zimbabwean international gave his first impressions of The Valley after stepping out onto the pitch.

"it does take your breath away, because I’ve played for some big clubs but not ones with as big a stadium like this and it eggs me on to go and play. If this place gets packed out I cant wait to hear the noise it makes."
