Anfernee Dijksteel has signed for Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old joined the esteemed Charlton academy in 2016 and established himself in the first team squad in last season’s 2018/19 promotion campaign.
Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer said: “Anfernee has developed so much over the last 18 months and played his part in the club’s promotion last season. It’s a tribute to the hard work of Anfernee, the first team staff and the club’s academy that he has become the player he has.
“Letting Anfernee go was a decision made by the footballing staff, it was a tough decision for us but it is a good deal for the club. Our focus remains on bringing in players that improve us ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.
“We wish Anfernee the best, except when he plays against us of course.”
Dijksteel said: “I want to thank all current and former staff at Charlton Athletic, as they have helped me develop into the player I am today.
“I would also like to say a massive and sincere thank you to the fans of Charlton Athletic. Thanks for your support, for travelling with the team all over the country. You will always have a special place in my heart.”
Dijksteel made 59 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
Everyone at Charlton Athletic wishes him well in his future career.
