Josh Cullen, who returned to the club on Wednesday, will go straight into the starting lineup for today’s game at home to Stoke City on Saturday.
Conor Gallagher and Jonathan Leko will start for the Addicks for the first time as Naby Sarr, George Lapslie and Jake Forster-Caskey move to the bench.
Chris Solly will also make his first appearance of the season after the departure of Anfernee Dijksteel to Middlesbrough.
Chuks Aneke returns to the bench, while new signings Beram Kayal and Sam Field are not included in the squad.
Charlton were very impressive in last week’s opening day, away win at Blackburn Rovers and are expected to play a different formation to the 5-diamond-1 in place that day.
Dillon Phillips starts in goal behind a likely back four of Solly, Tom Lockyer, captain Jason Pearce and Ben Purrington.
If the Addicks opt for a diamond in midfield it will likely be with Cullen holding, Gallagher and Darren Pratley in the middle and Jonny Williams behind a front two of Lyle Taylor and Leko.
Given Leko and Williams can both play wide, it is possible Lee Bowyer will opt for a 4-3-3 formation.
Forster-Caskey, Aneke, Sarr and Lapslie will be joined on the bench by Ben Amos, Deji Oshilaja and Macauley Bonne.
