Speaking after Charlton's 3-1 win over Stoke City at The Valley, Lee Bowyer was quick to praise his players and reveal what he said to his time at half time before the Addicks came out to keep all three points in the capital.
On making it two wins in two...
"We need to get points on the board early on and my players don’t ever surprise me, they’ve given me everything out there. We’ve got a good mixture and a good balance in our squad, we’ve got some young players out there and some experienced players to line the midfield and they’re all winners.
"Whatever we ask them to do, they go and do. Whether we change tactics at a different stage, they just adapt to it quickly and they work hard. In training we work in training to get things right. We’ve got a great bunch and I’ve said it time after time, it’s only now that they’ve started to realise."
On players gelling quickly…
"You have to at our club, you either work hard and do what we want, or you don’t play. And obviously we tried to choose wisely and get the right personnel for the football club, someone that we knew would fit in with the group that we already have. It’s something that Steve Gallen and myself worked really hard on, to bring in the right characters. Again, that shows when they go out there and play like we’ve seen."
On the half-time talk…
"I thought we had a couple of chances in the first half as well as [our] goal. I thought the first half was quite even. What I did say to the players is we might go to the diamond, give them the first ten minutes, see how the game starts in the second half and we might match them as a diamond.
"I know our players and I felt that individually, we were on top. We looked hungrier and sharper. I said see how it goes and we ended up matching them as a diamond. I thought we were the better side and we went on to win."
