Jonathan Leko was full of praise for the Charlton fans after they made their voices heard once again at The Valley during Wednesday evening’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
The winger, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, put in another exciting performance against Forest and provided the assist for Lyle Taylor’s first-half header which rounded off a tantalising 22-pass move.
And when asked about the electric atmosphere in SE7, the 20-year-old beamed as he discussed what it is like playing in front of the Valley supporters.
“The fans here are crazy, in a good way!” he said.
“They’re chanting during every second and every moment of the game and I like it. It helps us. Hopefully that will continue for the whole season.”
The 1-1 draw with Forest saw the Addicks put on a hugely-impressive showing, particularly in the first half, and was described by some fans as the best football played by Charlton for many, many years.
And for that reason, Leko and his teammates were disappointed not to come away with all three points, despite remaining upbeat as they head into Saturday’s home clash with Brentford unbeaten after four Championship games.
“We’re all positive in the dressing room after that performance,” explained Leko.
“But it was a bit disappointing we didn’t get the three points.
“In the first half, we were just pressing and wanted to press as high as we could. They couldn’t get anywhere near us and we could’ve been three or four up in the first-half so we were happy with that.
“The gaffer has been telling us to press high – as soon as we lose the ball, just press them and try and win it back as quick as possible.”
Meanwhile, the former England U19 international is keen to improve as he looks to add more goals and assists to his game, having already claimed two assists this term.
“I just want to play football, to be honest,” he said.
“I want to get game time, try and score and set up goals, so it was an easy decision to make to come here when I spoke to the manager. I don’t mind where I play, as long as I’m playing, I’m happy.”
