Charlton Athletic U23s have been drawn against Colchester United, Reading and Swansea City in their Premier League Youth Cup group.
The competition, which has adopted a UEFA Champions League-style format, will see the top two teams in the group advance through to a one-off match knockout stage of the competition.
Academy Manager, Steve Avory, spoke of the competition and the opportunities for experience that it brings.
“We like to enter the Premier League Cup as it gives us the opportunity to play against different teams. In recent years we’ve played against category one teams like Liverpool, Stoke and Sunderland.
“This year we have Reading and Swansea in our group which will be interesting and Colchester United, who we know very well as they are in the same league of us.
“It is a challenging group but we are looking forward to it and optimistic of progress.”
