Charlton’s Former Players’ Association have reformed their veteran’s team and will be taking part in their first match against a Cray Valley Paper Mills XI as part of their centenary celebrations.
The match, which takes place at Badgers Sports Ground, Middle Park Avenue, Eltham on Sunday, September 22nd (2pm), will see Charlton Legends XI take on their counterparts from Cray Valley with some big names set to turn out for the Addicks.
Johnnie Jackson, Darren Bent, Kevin Lisbie, Jason Euell, Jon Fortune, Luke Young, Ben Roberts, Mark Bright, Jason Euell, Paul Konchesky, Kevin James, Chris Perry and Jamal Campbell-Ryce are all signed up to play.
Tickets are priced £5 adults and £3 children on the gate, while U5s go for free and a percentage of funds raised will go to Prostate Cancer UK.
Club Ambassador and Chairman of the Former Players’ Association, Keith Peacock said: “Kevin Lisbie and Jon Fortune have joined the former players’ committee and we’re delighted to have them on board. Kevin has put this team together and it’s going to be great to reignite these matches in aid of charity.”
As chairman of the association, I’m pleased that these players are getting involved and we’ll be hoping to arrange some other games in the coming months against some other London vets teams and help raise some money for some worthwhile causes.”
Meanwhile, with Charlton celebrating their own centenary this season with the 100-year anniversary of The Valley, only a few tickets remain for the 'Evening Through the Decades...the 60s and 70s' event which takes place on Thursday, October 10th.
The intimate Q&A evening will come in two halves, with legendary Addicks Len Glover, Charlie Wright, Phil Warman and Brian Kinsey taking to the stage for the first part, before the mic turns to Colin Powell, Derek Hales and Arthur Horsfield for the second, with Keith Peacock overseeing proceedings.
