Charlton midfielder Josh Cullen remembers being a ball boy when Fulham Manager Scott Parker was playing at West Ham United.
The Addicks take on Fulham today at Craven Cottage at 12.30pm. Details on how you can watch or listen to the game live on Valley Pass can be found here.
Speaking ahead of the game Cullen is ready for a tough match-up, he said: “They’re a brilliant footballing side and we know it’s going to be a tough test but we go into every game believing we’re going to win it.
“I remember ballboying when Scott Parker was playing, he was a player I looked up to and tried to base my game on when he was playing for West Ham. He won Hammer of the Year a few times at least so he was somebody I watched every week, someone I looked up to and tried to learn from.
“I tried to replicate his mentality more than his game really. He was always trying to drive the team on no matter the circumstances. Whether the team was on a bad run of form or winning a lot of games, he never let his standards drop and made sure that everyone around him gave off good energy. So his mental approach to the game stood out more than anything, how he came across and was desperate to win every game. That’s the way I am.”
Cullen again starts in the same midfield as Conor Gallagher and he revealed he enjoys playing with the England U20 international. He said: “Conor’s a fantastic player. Chelsea produce brilliant players through their youth ranks and Conor is one of them. I think we complement each other's games well. We’re different players and we’re enjoying playing together and bouncing off each other. He’s doing brilliant and hopefully that can continue.”
