U18S REPORT | Coventry City 0 Charlton 6

Charlton U18s continued their unbeaten run to the season and climbed to the top of the table in fine fashion, beating Coventry City 6-0.

The Addicks were fast out of the blocks and were rewarded, going ahead on 17 minutes. A quick flowing move saw the ball end up at the feet of Terrell Agyemang out wide, who beat his man before whipping a dangerous cross into the box, which was subsequently turned in by a Coventry player.

Charlton doubled their lead just three minutes later, this time from the penalty spot. Luca Albon stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, coolly slotting into the bottom left hand corner.

Richard Afrane-Kesey netted on the 23rd to make it the visitors third in six minutes, connecting with a pullback from the right-hand side before guiding his shot past the goalkeeper.

Charlton made it four following a right-footed cross from defender Freddy Barton. The ball met the head of Dylan Gavin, who connected well and saw his powerful header beat the goalkeeper to find the top left-hand corner from just inside the box.

The young Addicks capped off an action packed first half with yet another goal, midfielder Albon stepping up from the penalty spot once more. Once again, the 18-year-old sent the goalkeeper the wrong way - this time passing the ball into the bottom right hand corner to ensure a well-deserved five goal lead at the break.

Despite the second half lacking the action of the first, it provided the best goal of the game which came in the 62nd minute. Aaron Henry stepped up for a freekick from the left-hand side, 25 yards from goal. His right footed strike found its way into the bottom left hand corner and capped off a magnificent Charlton performance.

The vintage display ensured that the team maintain their unbeaten run as they push onto the festive period.

The youngsters sit top of the Premier League U18 Professional Development League South, with seven wins and five draws across 12 games so far this season. The Addicks have conceded the fewest goals in the division and have scored an impressive 30 goals so far this season.

The U18s are next in action when they host Colchester United on Friday, November 22nd at 11am.
