Bowyer disappointed as Addicks' three-game unbeaten run comes to an end at Derby

Lee Bowyer was disappointed following his side’s 2-1 loss at Derby County.

The Addicks pushed for a late equaliser, forcing a crucial save from Ben Hamer, but Bowyer felt if they had scored it would have been more than his team deserved.

He said: “I’m disappointed. We’re playing against Derby and they had Krystian [Bielik] sent off early in the game and in my eyes we should go on and win the game. We didn’t for a number of reasons.

“In possession we were poor. We didn’t create anything at all. In the second half until the penalty we didn’t really have a shot. We got ourselves into so many good areas out wide, tried to work it, get the overload outwide but the cross in was poor. Our final ball was poor all night long. We were patient and we had to be at times but the quality was very bad.

“Defensively again we conceded another two goals. Credit to Derby they deserved to win today. We weren’t good enough and got exactly what we deserved and that was nothing. If we’d have got a late goal there it would have been harsh on them but we didn’t.”

The Addicks are currently in the middle of an injury crisis that saw Bowyer without 12 first team players for this evening’s game and the injury woes were added to when Macauley Bonne was substituted at half-time.

Despite this Bowyer wasn’t using the long injury list as an excuse for the loss. He said: “Does it come back to the amount of games we play at this time and [because of injuries] we have no-one to rotate? Maybe, but don’t get out battled, don’t get out-fought. I thought we were second to everything tonight against a good side that can play, then you are going to lose the game against a good side that can play. If anything is our strength it is our fight and our togetherness, maybe the Christmas period is catch up with us? It might be but I don’t like seeing my teams do that. We’ll have to dust them down and we’ve got another game in three days’ time, we can’t let that happen again.”

Charlton are back in action against Swansea City on Thursday.
