Tom Lockyer is hoping his goal against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday will be awarded to him after it was 'officially' credited as an own goal.
The Addicks fought back twice to clinch a 2-2 draw with Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion at The Valley on Saturday thanks to Lockyer's 76th-minute bullet header.
But the goal was later awarded as an own goal by Baggies' stopper Sam Johnstone and after the game Lockyer spoke about the incident.
"I'm not sure who I've p*ssed off, to be honest, because that's two now!" he joked.
“From my point of view I think it was over the line before he [Johnstone] saved it, but I’m sure there will be other angles but I’m not sure the goalie would want it so I don’t know why they do that.
"I think I should have had a couple more goals as well, but it's just not falling for me in a Charlton shirt at the minute. I’ll be delighted if it goes down as my goal, but the more important thing is the team getting a point and moving in the right direction."
“West Brom are a very good side," added Lockyer.
"I think the quality they had on the pitch, and what they were able to bring on, was Premier League quality at times. Our plan was to match them and I think we did that for large parts of the game.”
Lockyer also spoke about the injury crisis at The Valley this season but added that it is positive that players coming back will push the team on.
“The injury crisis is the worst I’ve ever seen in football," he explained.
"I can’t remember anything quite as near as what’s happening here, obviously it is not an excuse, but it doesn’t help. When the bodies do start coming back, we’ll be looking to go toe-to-toe with the majority of teams.
"The positive thing for us is that you’ve seen we have Jonny [Williams], Tomer [Hemed] and Cask [Jake Forster-Caskey] back in the action.”
The club has already seen a new arrival in Andre Green this month and Lockyer is hoping the Addicks can add to that in the coming weeks of the transfer window.
“We’ve been told there will be signings coming in to strengthen the squad as well so there’s going to be competitions for places and the more bodies we can get back the more we’ll have to win those games.”
The club can confirm that they will submit Lockyer's goal to the EFL's dubious goals panel in a bid to get the goal re-credited to Lockyer.
