Charlton have confirmed their participation in the #UltimateQuaranTeam tournament being hosted by Leyton Orient.
The tournament kicks off on Sunday, March 22nd and sees 128 teams gearing up to battle it out on FIFA20 in a knockout competition during the break in football caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
Each club will put forward one representative to play their games in the tournament and Charlton Athletic have nominated Jamie Boxall to represent the Addicks.
Speaking on the tournament, Jamie, a lifelong fan who also works for the club, explained the idea behind the tournament and gave a little insight into how it will work.
“Leyton Orient decided to make the most out of the current situation by putting on this FIFA tournament and have reached out to clubs now from all over the world! It was an open invitation and clubs just had to tweet them on their official Twitter account and let them know of their interest."
Charlton drew Scunthorpe United in the first round of the competition.
When asked if he was feeling confident going into the tournament, Jamie aired a sense of cautious optimism.
“The thing is, anyone from the club can be a representative, be they a fan, a member of staff or a player.
“I’m a decent player but just not knowing the competition leaves there a lot to be discovered in terms of the quality of the player! I’ll do my best and think of what Lee Bowyer’s boys do when they give 100% and try and bring the ‘W’ home!”
Charlton's first game will be streamed on the club's YouTuba channel at 7pm on Sunday, March 22nd.
The tournament is also looking to raise funds for a number of causes including helping other football clubs who are struggling due to fixture postponements, EFL's chosen MIND charity and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fundraiser set up by the World Health Organisation.
