With the country impacted by the coronavirus crisis Lee Bowyer has sent his best wishes to the whole of the Charlton family.
The Addicks' Manager is trying to coordinate his team’s training amidst the crisis and is keeping an eye on his side's upcoming games.
He said: “I’m just hopeful that we do get back playing relatively soon so they can come and support us. I’ve said it a lot that they play a massive part and if we do end up playing games behind closed doors, that won’t give us an advantage because they play such a good part. All I’d say to our fans is stay safe and I hope they and their families all stay well.”
For Bowyer himself, despite no training it is a busy time. He said: “Each day we’re listening for guidance, that’s all we can do. We can’t do any more. Obviously myself I have a family and I’m worried for them, that’s natural.”
The latest guidance came from the footballing authorities on Thursday afternoon with news the season is now postponed until at least April 30th.
On Wednesday the EFL confirmed: “The primary objective, in order to protect competition integrity, is to deliver a successful conclusion to the 2019/20 season, subject to the over-riding priority around health and well-being.”
Bowyer said: “I think that’s the right thing to do, finish the season because we’re so close. At the same time, how long is this going to go on for? We’re all guessing, no-one actually knows I don’t think. If you go by other countries and what has happened then this is going to go on for a long time. Where do you draw the line?"
