Patrick Bauer on Wembely winner: "I’ve probably watched it over 1,000 times!"

Wembley hero Patrick Bauer feels last year’s play-off final win capped off the best two weeks of his life.

Bauer led the Addicks out at Wembley on May 26th 2019 and it was his stoppage-time winner that earned Charlton a place in the Championship.

Earlier that month the centre-half had become a father for the first time and he also played an important role in Charlton’s thrilling semi-final win over Doncaster Rovers.

Speaking earlier this year the centre half said: “I remember it [the Wembley final] well. It was a moment I will never forget. Since then I’ve probably watched it over 1,000 times!

“I remember that Jason Pearce was with one of their players and I gave him a shout to leave it for me. Obviously, I tried to head it into the far corner, but it was blocked and came back to me and I just wanted to smash it in.

“I think it got deflected off of one of their players, but obviously it went in. What a moment. It’s a moment I will never forget.

“I think everyone who was watching from the Charlton supporters were experiencing that feeling. It’s something that you will never forget.

“Obviously, also at that time was the birth of my daughter. This was probably the best two weeks of my life.

“I still have a lot of respect for the club, for the supporters and everyone involved. I wish the club all the best for the future.”
