MATCH PREVIEW | Hull City v Charlton

With the season halted on March due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, Charlton's season will get back under way after a 103-day delay with nine vital games left and Championship survival the goal.

The busy schedule will see the Addicks take on nine games over a period of 33 days, with four home and five away fixtures all played behind closed doors, with the first test being a trip to Hull City's KCOM Stadium in what is the proverbial six-pointer.

Lee Bowyer's men slipped into the bottom three for the very first time this season immediately prior to lockdown and the Tigers sit just one place above them, two points better off. Indeed, there is just three points separating Charlton in 22nd and Stoke City in 17th and, with 27 points still up for grabs, Bowyer will be looking to get as many points on the board as early as possible.

The three-month break in play has ensured that a number of previously-injured players are now back available. Sam Field was due to miss most of the remainder of the campaign, but is now back fit and in contention for the clash against the Tigers as is Lewis Page, while Chuks Aneke has impressed Bowyer since returning to training earlier this month.

However, Charlton will be without Lyle Taylor, Chris Solly and loanee David Davis. The trio have informed the club of their refusal to continue for the last nine games of the season.

The hosts Hull also have a similar situation with captain Eric Lichaj, vice-captain Jackson Irvine, Stephen Kingsley and Marcus Maddison all refusing to continue and will be unavailable for Grant McCann's side.

Charlton Boss Lee Bowyer: “This is in the players’ hands now. Everything that has gone on behind the scenes this season, that is nothing to do with what is going to happen now. We have had to come even closer and I know the players will have given me 100 per cent.”

Hull City boss Grant McCann: “The break was actually longer than a normal pre-season, so whatever happened before the break has happened and all we’re focused on are these next nine games."

“It’s almost like a nine-game mini season for us now. That is what it’s all about.

Charlton and Hull have met on 39 previous occasions with the Addicks coming out on top 17 times, the Tigers winning 11 games and the other 11 ending in draws.

The last meeting at The Valley back in December ended in a 2-2 draw with Hull netting a 96th-minute equaliser, despite only four minutes of injury-time being signalled.

The Londoners' last trip to the KCOM Stadium was a forgettable one - a 6-0 reverse in January 2016 during the torrid 2015/16 relegation campaign. The last victory away at the Tigers came in October 2007 - Charlton's first trip to Hull's new stadium - in which Luke Varney and Chris Iwelumo both netted in a 2-1 victory which also saw both sides have a player sent off.
