Lee Bowyer was pleased with his team after they continued their unbeaten restart to Championship football with a well-earned away point at play-off contenders Cardiff City.
The Addicks created chances and defended stoutly for a third consecutive clean sheet.
Speaking after the game the Charlton Manager said: “I think it was a well-earned point. I think at times we looked dangerous and at times they looked dangerous. There wasn’t really any clear-cut chances. We had a couple of hard ones, they had a couple of hard ones, so a point was fair, I think we deserved it.
“The players gave everything, we fought, it’s a tough place to come, they are a physical side who have just come down from the Premier League. They’ve got good quality, especially in the final third, so I’m happy to be leaving with a point.”
Cardiff have beaten promotion rivals Leeds United and Preston North End since the return to action and Bowyer was pleased with how his team coped.
“They’re a good side,” he said. “They’ve got players who can hurt you. We knew it was going to be tough. I thought we were better first half, once we passed it and created overloads we looked dangerous. They pinned us back second half and we couldn’t hold it up and we couldn’t get up the pitch. Overall, I’m happy. It’s not many times I say I’m happy with a point but to get seven out of the first three games is very good.”
Bowyer switched to a back five, from the four at the back he has used in the previous two games. The defence, once again, looked solid and organised and kept another clean sheet.
He said: “They are putting their bodies on the line and they are defending properly. When crosses are coming in they’re marking their men. Three clean sheets you’ve always got a chance in the game, we had a couple of chances in the first half, we could have nicked it. The most important thing is the clean sheet, we’ve got a point and now we get ready for Friday.”
