Dillon Phillips has been named Charlton’s 2019/20 Player of the Year.
The goalkeeper, who joined the Addicks’ academy as an eight-year-old, has played every minute of this year’s Sky Bet Championship campaign and has been crucial in his side’s battle to steer clear of the relegation zone, making more saves than any other goalkeeper in the league.
The trophy is normally present at the club’s annual Player of Year dinner but because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that event had to be cancelled this season. Instead the goalkeeper was presented with his trophy by Lee Bowyer at the club’s Sparrows Lane training ground.
Phillips received 53% of the supporters’ vote, with Darren Pratley finishing second with 23% of the votes and Josh Cullen third, as he was last season, with 11%.
Alfie Doughty claimed the Young Player of the Year award having won the vote from Valley Gold members. Albie Morgan and last year’s winner, George Lapslie, were also in the running for the award.
Doughty’s achievement is all the more impressive given that he was loaned out to National League side Bromley earlier in the season before being recalled during the club’s injury crisis. The 20-year-old took full advantage of his opportunity, making 28 appearances in the Championship for the Addicks, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
Meanwhile, Lili Maple has picked up the Women’s team Player of the Year award with Manager Riteesh Mishra explaining she was “integral” to the Addicks’ midfield. Rachel Newborough finished second ahead of third-placed Charley Clifford.
Other awards included Jonny Williams receiving the Charlton Athletic Community PFA Community Champion of the Year award for his work done in the community, while Dillon Phillips picked up the Charlton Athletic Disabled Supporters' Association Player of the Year accolade and Rick Everitt received recognition as Supporter of the Year.
The Valley Gold Award for Outstanding Service to Charlton Athletic Women’s team was given to the hard-working David Brenchley.
