U18S REPORT | Bristol City 2 Charlton 1

Charlton’s U18s were dealt their first defeat of the season at the hands of Bristol City on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead on 38 minutes when a low free-kick delivery was turned in on the volley by a red shirt.

Charlton had spurned some good opportunities prior to that, but did gain a level footing in the second half thanks to Richard Chin in the 65th minute – in similar fashion to Bristol City’s opener, it came via a free-kick with Chin able to nod home an excellent delivery.

Mack Reilly had a good chance to put the Addicks ahead soon after, latching on to an inch-perfect over the top from Deji Elerewe to find himself one-on-one with the keeper, only to be denied by the stopper’s outstretched foot in what was an excellent save.

That miss would come back to haunt the visitors as the Robins punished Charlton in injury-time. A short corner caught Charlton napping, allowing a red shirt to eventually head home unmarked.

The young Addicks will be looking to pick themselves back up after a weekend off, returning to action against Sheffield Wednesday at Sparrows Lane on October 17th.
